Clarified Criteria for Nomination into the IIIC
(1 January 2008)
When proposing an individual for potential membership into the IIIC, the nominating member should consider the following five essential criteria for candidacy:
Criterion One
A new member must have been, or continue to be, active in academic or private clinical practice in the field of implantology for at least ten years preceding the date of acceptance to membership.
Criterion Two
A new member must be involved in teaching and research in the field of implantology and active in meetings internationally.
Criterion Three
A new member must have published in the international peer-reviewed literature on the topics for which they are well known, accepted and respected, and are being used for the consideration of their membership into the IIIC.
Criterion Four
A new member must be a “gentle” man or woman, of the highest ethical character, being of a communicative personality, likely to interact with the membership in the social and academic activities of the Club.
Criterion Five
A new member may be elected to membership, either as a Regular or an Honorary member, who does not fulfill criteria 1-4, because of that individual’s special contribution to implantology, at the discretion of the executive council accepting the nominee, submitting the nominee to proceed through the regular nomination steps, and ratification by the membership at the annual meeting of the Club, in accordance to the IIIC bylaws.
Procedure for the Nomination of New Members into the IIIC
(1 January 2008)
Step One: First Member Nomination
A member submits a nomination letter to the executive council stating the name of the candidate together with a short supporting letter that describes the individual’s credentials for membership. The member requests a second member to second the nomination. Some comment on the individual’s character should be included in the proposal supporting letters of the sponsors.
Step Two: Second Member Nomination
The fellow IIIC member seconds the nomination. The second sponsor also submits a written supporting letter to the executive council stating why the candidate qualifies for IIIC membership.
Step Three: Candidate Submission of Letter of Intent and Curriculum Vitae
Following receipt of the two sponsor statements, the candidate
receives notification of their nomination into the IIIC and is
invited to apply for membership. The candidate is asked to submit
a letter of intent together with updated curriculum vitae. The
candidate must provide evidence of his/her research and publication
history, in English, for review by the membership and the executive
council.
Step Four: Review of Candidates by Membership
On June 1 of each calendar year, the name and the curriculum vitae of candidates who have compiled the required documents are distributed to the IIIC membership for review and comments. Objections by IIIC members to candidates are submitted in writing to the executive council. Positive comments are also encouraged.
Step Five: Executive Council Review of Candidates and Member Objections
The executive council reviews the curriculum vitae and the qualifications of each candidate. The publication history of each candidate is reviewed by the IIIC secretary at Medline, http://www.Pubmed.com, and reported to the council. The executive council also reviews each comment submitted by IIIC members regarding candidates. Candidate objections are individually investigated and carefully reviewed. If the objection shows merit, the individual candidate will not be brought before the membership for final vote at the membership meeting during ESCRS.
Step Six: Final Membership Approval
During the annual membership meeting and dinner during ESCRS, the IIIC secretary announces the name of each of the individuals who have successfully completed the steps in the membership nomination process. A final vote on each successful candidate is requested from the membership present at the dinner meeting.
Step Seven: New Member Notification
Following final approval by the membership at the annual meeting, new members receive notification of their successful candidacy and an invitation to formally accept membership in the IIIC, along with an invitation to future events. They are introduced to the membership at the luncheon held during the subsequent ASCRS meeting.
